Al-Hafayer Beach - or Al-Ghandoor Beach is now CLOSED
Update: The Al-Hafayer Beach area is now closed from the public and all the seaside cafes have been removed since the development works have started in October 2009.
So read the following as "in memoriam..."
Al-Hafayer Beach, also called Al-Ghandoor Beach, the only public beach inside the city of Aqaba, streches from the Royal Yacht Club to the Great Arab Revolt Plaza and the
Giant Flag.
As one of the most popular places for locals to go out, it is a MUST see attraction in Aqaba.

There are several stairways connecting the beach with Al-Malik Al-Husayn Ibn Talal street. To my amazement, this area doesn't seem to change:
Some locals still grow vegetables on one of the most valuable lands of Aqaba!I mean, I don't want to kick them out - they are nice people, they even gave my Mother a palm tree sapling as a gift... ... but hey, there are better uses for this area than farming!
This beach is famous for its coffee shops, where you can sit down, take off your shoes and have a soft drink on a hot day, smoke an arguila or hubbly-bubbly or just enjoy the sweet fragrances of the fuit-flavoured tobaccos and coffee with cardamom.
The place gets really busy after sunset and at the weekends, but during regular days it's a very relaxed place.
Despite the name, this beach is not really for swimming. Littering is a serious problem, and only kids and some locals (women in full costume) go into the water.
Glass bottom boats
are picking up passengers from here, if you fancy a cruise.
