Al Shami Restaurant is located behind the Hussein bin Ali mosque in the market area (souk) of Aqaba.

This restaurant is very much favoured by locals, which is always a good sign. Try fresh fish or many of the local lamb and chicken dishes.

Try the mezze that is served before the main dish. These are all kind of appetizers: dips, pickels, salads. But watch out: they are so good, you can actually fill up your stomach easily with them and will be no space left for the main course!

Sitting on the balcony might be just too hot during a summer day but it is very nice after sunset. You can feel the buzz of the street while enjoying your dinner.

They serve traditional Arabic breakfast in the morning.

Prices are reasonable and you get very good value for your money.

"Fantastic value"

We ate 3 times in Al Shami in December 2008 and it was fantastic value. It is very clean but basic, you may get plastic plates for example.
The staff are all extemely friendly and helful. I mentioned that I would like to eat lamb and there was only grilled lamb on the menu. The chef made up dish (don't know the Jordanian name but it was like a giant lambburger on spicy eggplant. Twice my husband chose fish (go down stairs and choose which one you like) and both times it was superb and only 8 JD.
You will NOT get ripped of here.

I followed the recommendation of my local friends and we had there lunch many times:

delicious, fresh food, NOT expensive, very nice service.

I liked their lemon juice blended with mint, I tried it in many places but here was the best.

"Driver and vehicle were very acceptable - and in light of the driving/vehicle conditions in Amman this was most welcome. The service is on the expensive side when compared with the local taxi service but, in my opinion, most worthwhile. The driver was welcoming and very helpful. Luggage handling was completely handled at both ends of the trip in a very professional manner. I would definitely use this service again."
