Extremly high entrance price to Petra

Petra Entry Tickets

Petra Entry Tickets

Why is the entrance price to Petra for Foreigners so extremly high?

Answer: The price of the Petra entry tickets was raised gradually in 2010, to the current level. These new prices are criticized by many as being controversial and discriminative.

Visitors now have to pay for additional services like guiding and horse riding - even if they don't wish to use them.

Also, there is now a distinction between daytrippers and overnight visitors. The lower price that overnight visitors pay is supposed to encourage people to spend more time in Jordan.

The admision prices that day-visitors have to pay make Petra one of the most expensive tourist sites in the world.

Allegedly the extra income will be spent on improving the facilities and services at the Petra Archaeological Park.

Exorbitant entrance fee to Petra NEW
by: Anonymous

I am a resident of Amman and i feel the entrance fee to Petra is ridiculously high and impractical. It is a disappointment in terms of the mileage you get after paying so high. I have noticed that it has often come as a surprise to tourists who do not have an idea of the currency and many a times they were disappointed for making Petra a part of their itinerary. Do we really intend doing something about this or just ignore the comments.

Info from official website
by: Eszter (admin)

Hi Sam,

As you can read on the Petra ticket prices page: "The above information is received from the Petra Park Visitor Center by phone, on 13 January 2010."

The Petra Park official website has the same information, as of today.

On the other hand, it may happen that they had cancelled this distinction between Day-Visitors and Overnight Tourists but forgot to update their website...

Telephone number of the Petra Visitor Centre is +962 (0)3 215 6044, please call them for up-to-date ticket prices.

The 1 day ticket is 50 JOD
by: Sam from Saudi Arabia

I don't understand where you have got the price of 90 JOD for Petra?
The 1 day ticket is 50 JOD and the 2 day ticket is 55 JOD - I was just there last week & there was no fee of 90 JOD for anything!

Petra entrance prices
by: Ruth

I agree that the entrance price for one day is very high. However, one should remember that for two days the price is 55JD which works out much more reasonably, and for three days it is 60JD which makes it no more expensive than most important tourist sites around the world.

Most people agree that Petra cannot be visited properly in one day without exhausting oneself, it needs at least two.

AMMAN AIRPORT TRANSFER

Amman Airport Private Arrival/Departure Transfer

Reviewed by Donald G, May 2011:

"Driver and vehicle were very acceptable - and in light of the driving/vehicle conditions in Amman this was most welcome. The service is on the expensive side when compared with the local taxi service but, in my opinion, most worthwhile. The driver was welcoming and very helpful. Luggage handling was completely handled at both ends of the trip in a very professional manner. I would definitely use this service again."
