Jabal Amman Residents Association (JARA) invites you to participate in the Jabal Amman Photo Contest 2010 by submitting photographs that promotes their mission of working to conserve the identity and ethnicity of the Jabal Amman area.

JARA encourage the submission of photographs that display and celebrate the cultural, historical and modern look of this neighborhood and its communities.

Photo Contest Rules

Eligibility

The contest is open to all Jordanian and foreign nationals residing in Jordan who are 16 years of age and older.

Entry Period

The contest begins 1st of January 2010 and ends on the 31st of December 2010. All entries must be received within this time period.

JARA reserves the right to modify the deadline for submissions due to circumstances beyond its control.

Entry Instructions

Please enter the contest by completing the submission form, available at

Entrants must complete all data requested on the form.

You may submit up to five photographs; however, you must complete a separate submission form for each image.

All photographs should be presented in print form, on photographic paper.

Size of image should not exceed 46 x 30 cm and not smaller than 35 x 30 cm.

Color, black and white, and sepia images are eligible.

By entering, you warrant that the photograph that you submit is original and is your own, and does not infringe on the rights of any third party, you further warrant that your participation in this photo contest does not violate any agreement between you and a third party.

By entering the Jabal Amman Photo Contest, you grant the JARA Association the non-exclusive right to publish, use distribute, reproduce and publicly display your photograph, in any of its on-line, print or other media publications, materials or exhibitions, for purposes of promoting the JARA mission and awareness of its program. While JARA will make every effort to credit photographers when using photos, there may be circumstances where it is not possible to do so. Subject to the right granted to JARA, you retain all other copyrights and rights to future use of the photographs you enter into contest.

If your photograph (s) include a recognizable person or people, you must secure permission from each person (or in the case of minor the minor's parent) to use his/her image in the photo contest, and present it to JARA, if requested. Model release forms are available at JARA CAFE and the above fax number and email address. JARA reserves the right to disqualify an entry if it finds, in its sole discretion, that an entrant has not secured a necessary release.

Submitted materials will not be returned.

Submission of an entry to the contest automatically constitutes the contestant's acceptance of all conditions set forth in these rules.

Judging Criteria & Winner Selection

After the close of the entry period, eligible photographs will be judged based on three (3) criteria and assigned a score of up to a maximum of 30 points.

The three criteria, which will be weighted equally, are:

• - visual appeal and composition (maximum 10 points);
• - portrayal of the JARA mission (maximum 10 points);
• - and originality and creativity (maximum 10 points).

The judges will be members of the JARA initiative who are involved in Marketing and Communications, as well as experts in photography the fine arts and design.

Prize Winner Notification & Prizes

In addition to awarding cash prizes, selected photos will be included in a book highlighting the architectural treasures and history of Jabal Amman.

JARA shall notify the winners by email and/or telephone.
