In memoriam Mermaid Camp

Mermaid Camp engraved

Funny, but you can still find Mermaid Camp in several Aqaba guidebooks.

They describe it as a friendly, laid-back place for backpackers and campers, serving great food, right on the beach with excellent snorkeling locations around.

We get phone calls almost every week from people who want to book accomodation with us.

And we have to tell them, with broken heart, that Mermaid Camp doesn't exist any more...

... it was demolished by bulldozers, together with the two other camps, in March 2006.

That is the sad part of the story.

The good part is that the owners of those camps received new lands in exchange: further south, opposite public Beach 4, to build new camps.

Our new camp, Darna Village offers a lot more than Mermaid did:

  • Air-conditioned rooms with bathroom and seaview

  • Restaurant

  • Dive Center

  • Swimming pool and sunbeds

  • Internet

Update:

Darna Village has opened in April 2009. Click here for more info.
