Travelling to Jordan during Ramadan?

by Ritika
(Singapore)

We are two Asian women planning to travel to Jordan in Aug 2012 (during the Ramadan season). We have been hearing mixed reviews about the travel. Can you please let us know if, as a tourist, we might face issues of accommodations, food, travel, etc.

Do the major tourists spots remain open or close early? How about the tour operators?

Answer:
I have written about the advantages and disadvantages of travelling to Jordan during Ramadan already, please read it through together with other people's experiences that you will find towards the bottom of that page.

You should not experience any problem finding accommodation BEFORE the end of Ramadan (Aug 19-20).

The scheduled buses like JETT or Trust operate as normal, but the public minibuses might run less frequently during Ramadan.

Small shops and restaurants are likely to be closed during the day and open only after the sunset, but tourist sites are open - usually till sunset.

Try to schedule your daily program so that you can be in a restaurant at sunset time and join the locals when they break their fast.

I would really appreciate if you could give me a feedback and share your Ramadan experiences after your trip to Jordan.
