Appauling Experience For Foreign Travellers on the Nuweiba-Aqaba Ferry
by Roger Topia
Trying to purchase a ticket from the office in Nuweiba was very difficult, there were originally 3 people in front of me to start with and then people started pushing, shoving and because I was a foreing traveller, it ended up taking me 70 minutes to finally purchase a ticket.
There is no system or any sort of organised structure(a single file line needs to be implemented to serve fair to all passengers, old, young, local or tourist), there are no signs or imformation in English to be found that help direct you to the right places, there were no immigration forms in English available and I was simply told "no,no,no, get right form".
Having already waiting for 1/2 hour and then to have to wait in line again, the terminal is disgusting, dirty and staff are not helpful at all.
If the terminal was actually looked after and had people collecting the mountains of rubbish which litters the Port and some form of order put in place, then a lot more tourist would use this terminal to transfer between Egypt and Jordan. I have spoken with at least 70 other travellers who would NOT recommend to travel via Ferry.
The 3 hour delay wasn't too much of a problem, it is simply the disorganised chaos at the terminal, you will find your way around eventually, but it can be a testing experience if you are unfamiliar with travel.
The company should be ashamed of the lack of care and responsibilty they should be providing to the public, foreign or not.
I WOULD STRONGLY ADVISE OTHER TRAVELLERS TO FLY BY AIRCRAFT AND NOT USE THIS APPAULING FERRY SYSTEM, Shame on the company.
